Stock model

The stock object attached to every product, and how quantity steps work.

Availability travels with the product rather than as a separate lookup, so the assembly step never has to decide whether its view of stock is current.

The stock object

  • quantity — how much is available at the location in scope.

  • decimal quantity flag — whether this product is sold in fractional amounts, such as loose produce priced by weight.

Systems without a stock API

Some catalog systems expose no availability at all. Where that is the case, connectors attach a synthetic in-stock value so the product remains purchasable rather than silently disappearing. That is a deliberate fallback for demonstration and early integration, and it is the first thing to replace with real data when you connect properly.

Refresh

Whether availability is read live or on an interval depends on what your inventory system supports and how volatile your assortment is. Both patterns work. The decision belongs in scoping.
